First Storey building in Nigeria.

History has it that the construction of the first storey building in Nigeria began in 1842 which was when the foundation was laid.

It was completed in 1845 in Badagry, Lagos Nigeria.

The building was said to be constructed by Rev. Henry Townsend of the Church Missionary Society (CMS).

It was then occupied Samuel Ajayi Crowther, the first African CMS bishop when he undertook the task of translating the Bible from English to Yoruba.

This was where the first missionaries in Nigeria settled in and it was believed to be where returnee slaves lodged too.

The house has six big rooms, four stores and two big sitting rooms and a safe where valuable things are saved.

Even though the house may look frail and old from outside, the wooden staircases looks strong as ever.
